During an HR Policy Global meeting on how local HR leaders are managing the COVID-19 crisis and supporting their employees in India, HR heads from major global companies shared their strategies and key resources, and proposed to work collectively on a vaccination plan for their employees.

Vaccination concerns and solutions under new regulations:  How to get employees and their families vaccinated quickly is a huge challenge when the country is experiencing a shortage of supplies and uncertainty about related policies and regulations.  This week, India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) announced that private companies can directly purchase and import COVID-19 vaccines from other countries that follow certain procedures.  Leaders who participated in the meeting suggested that the companies should take a collective approach to accelerate the process.

Taking care of employees:  Participants shared how they are caring for and supporting their employees and families.  Proposed solutions included telemedicine providers, COVID paid time off, insurance coverage, oxygen canister procurement, distribution, and sourcing firms that aggregate many of these elements for companies.

Mental health and emotional support:  Participants were concerned about the emotional toll the pandemic is taking on employees, volunteers, and their families.  Speakers encouraged companies to consider the long-term impact to their employees and to seek solutions to support their mental health, including through telehealth.

Next steps:  HR Policy in India and HR Policy Global will continue to support our member companies in any way we can.  We will collaborate with Indian and U.S. leaders to provide resources and updates in real time.  Please continue using our online platform to share your thoughts and ask questions.
