The Hiring Initiative to Reimagine Equity (HIRE) is intended to help employers diversify their workforces while helping workers of color and other underrepresented groups access good jobs.

Multi-year collaborative effort will engage a broad array of stakeholders to “identify strategies to remove hiring barriers that limit opportunity along the lines of race, color, ethnicity, gender, LGBTQ+ status, religion, disability, age and veteran status.”

Working with employers is a key component of this initiative, according to EEOC Chair Charlotte A. Burrows. The initial roundtable discussion this week brought together employer, worker, union, and civil rights organizations to explore how to promote recruitment and hiring practices that advance racial equity for underserved communities.

Future meetings with employer groups. The EEOC and OFCCP will convene a series of meetings to identify actionable strategies to promote organizational policies and practices that advance equity. The agencies intend to develop materials such as guidance documents or practice resources aimed to embed equity in recruitment and hiring practices. HR Policy plans to meet with the agencies to discuss how employers and the Association’s Council on Inclusion and Diversity can be involved with the initiative.
