Law firm Littler Mendelson P.C. recently surveyed over 750 human resources executives and in-house counsel across Europe on their key concerns and strategies regarding COVID-19.  They found that most are taking some action to address employee mental health and well-being and are starting to experience operational headaches as employees use pent up holiday time.

Remote work:  As in the United States, the remote work practices during the pandemic will have some staying power with the majority (80%) requiring or considering requiring more employees to work remotely.  In addition, nearly half (41%) are making long-term changes to their remote work policies to provide more flexibility.

Delayed workforce reductions likely:  Of the survey respondents whose organizations accepted aid from government-supported wage subsidy programs, 59% expect to make workforce reductions when the programs end.  And most expect to make them quickly—63% say they would do so as soon as the law allowed, before the government programs ended or within two weeks of their expiration.
